What brings you to Blantyre Mission today?

As Sports Director for SM Galaxy, we are here at the church at St. Michaels and All Angels where we want to clean the church and the premise outside.  As you know, SM Galaxy is a youth charitable football club which was formed by Professor Sam Mchombo:  besides the youth playing football, they should also engage themselves in community services.  So that’s why today we are here.  Because the beginning of wisdom, you must fear God.  So we are here at the church, just to encourage the youth that they should also help their community by doing church projects.

 

How does community service help the youth?

As the youth, they need to engage themselves in church projects because whenever we are put in church, we need to have the light of the youth.  It helps for the youth to assist in church projects or whenever they want to clean.  As the youth, they line up and down, in the everyday….

 

Why is SM Galaxy so active in community service?

SM Galaxy right now is doing very well in the community services, because it is setting a very good example for the youth of Malawi.  As I’ve already said, I am the Sports Director, and my main job is to instill a sense of discipline in the youth of Malawi, so when they grow up, they should know they have a responsibility with the youth as far as the development of this country is concerned.

 

What makes you want to do be involved in the community?

First of all the youth should know God, and as the youth they should know they have a responsibility, that they can help.  Because for us to develop we need the youth.  Just to mention a few, we always have problems.  Maybe some of our roads here in Malawi…  Most of the time when we have heavy rains, they are impassable.  As the youth, we need to ensure the roads are very good.  Whenever in the cities, it is dirty - they need to clean up the cities.  Whenever we have so many suffering, like orphans, we should help them.  So we are just trying to take the youth of Malawi, that they should lead this country, they should help by doing the community services.

 

How can people in the church youth group help their community?

As I’ve said, All Angels and St. Michaels is a Blantyre Mission.  And we’ve got the youth of Blantyre Mission.  What they should be doing as the youth, they should be able to clean this area, so that it looks nice.  And they should also clean the church, so whenever they are conducting church services it should be a nice place.  As you know, this is a historical place.  We need to keep the place clean.

 

Why should sponsors in the West support SM Galaxy?

That is a very good question.  My appeal to all well wishers, outside the country or inside the country – they should help us, especially SM Galaxy.  Because now we have shined the world because of what we have been doing.  Most of the youth right now they know that they have a responsibility in the development of this country.  So I would appeal to all well-wishers that they should assist us financially and even by giving us, supporting us with sports equipment, like footballs, training cleats, boots, just to mention a few.  And those things will help us, because we want to go all over parts of Malawi, so that we should form other youth teams or clubs so that they should follow suit with what SM Galaxy is doing.  But as of now, I would like to thank Professor Sam Mchombo who is in the United States of America.  For forming this club and he is doing all the best for finding assistance, especially sponsorship for us.  And lastly let me also thank Americans who have been in touch with us, they have been helping us a lot.  It is our wish that they continue supporting us, and may God bless America.
