Conversations with Malawi

I live in Ndirande township, a town, downtown Blantyre, here in Malawi.  My parents are actually from Chiadzul village, a district here in Blantyre, both of them.  And I am number 4 child in the family.  We are about 7.  Two of my sisters passed away, so we are only now five.

What influence did your parents have on you?

My parents are godly people.  So they brought us in godly morals and values, which have helped us to grow in Christian ways up to this day.  Because I remember when I was a young boy, the youth encouraged us to go on to Sunday school where we learned about God and through them that we’ve learned so much things about the life which God wants us to live.

What is the purpose of St. Michael’s All Angels Youth?

This is an organization which is under the church; it is one of the subcommittee so to speak.  We are involved in so many things.  One of them is to encourage the youth fellowship of the Church in a Godly way.  But also you are socially connected to other areas around here where we do go out to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, in the process helping them, meeting their needs according to the ability that we have.

But the main thing that we do is to reach out to our brothers and sisters to preach the gospel to them and helping them in a way that we can.

SM Galaxy is here to help clean your church, how does it help?

It will help the church, because one of the way to assemble the fellowship of the young people.  We know it’s only when young people come together and fellowship like this that we learn from each other, many things that will help us to grow in this life.  Because it’s through interaction of people, you learn different values where people have grown with.

Why is it beneficial for Malawian youth to follow the example of SM Galaxy?

The importance is, because when young people know their identity it will define how they should live in their life.  So its through these things that you can bring young people together.  In the process you develop the fellowship, but with the purpose that each one of them should know that they have a divine purpose in their life.  That’s the main thing.  Because when young people know that they have the purpose in this life, the way they will live, they will live in line with this purpose.  And it will be a contribution to the family, to the church, even to the world at large.

Every nation in this world needs young people.  Because young people are energetic, they are full of vitality, and they are people, they have the vision for their nation.  So as young people here in Malawi, if we can come together through this interaction, as SM Galaxy has done with us, we can learn from each other, we can develop, we can pull our talents together, or our resources together which can be of help to our nation here in Malawi.  And I can say the population here in Malawi, the number which is at the increases of young people.  So if the young people can be brought together they can be of help to this nation.  And so you are aware of HIV/AIDS which is so rampant in the world.  So this is one way we can spread the message about HIV / AIDS, the dangers of HIV / AIDS.  So young people can be preserved in such way and contribute to the future of the nation. Because the future of this nation Malawi depends on the young people who are energetic, and who have the vision for their lives, for their nation, even for the world outright.

What would you say to someone considering sponsoring the youth in Malawi?

I can encourage them, say if they can empower us, the young people here in Malawi, through so many things –sports equipment, or one way or another.  It will be of help to young people here in Malawi.  Because most of them, I can say, what they love, they love sports.  So its through sports you can reach out to them to know they have a purpose in their life.  So if we can have so much of this sporting equipment or sponsorship, so to speak, it can be of help to so many young people here in Malawi.  You can take for example, what SM Galaxy is doing.  They are doing social activities, within here, Blantyre area, which is of help to other people.  They do sweeping, they do go out to the hospital cleaning – these are social activities which show that young people do care and do love the nation of Malawi.   And they are contributing something to this nation which will be to the glory of our God.
